That makes a lot of sense.
In addition, I don't think we are in the era of nervous short sellers (1998 to early 2000). With the stock market mania over, there is really much that will push the Nasdaq significantly higher.
Long gone are the days when a short on AOL or Yahoo could wipe out bears. Without this type of danger, there is no reason to cover. Most Nasdaq companies are not really that interested in buying back their own shares. Even Microsoft cut back buybacks significantly last quarter---that was the surprise that caught my attention in their earnings report (because their stated cautious outlook is not by itelf unusual).
