Elmer:

"Pentium IV, while not particularly impressive, is slightly ahead of Athlon XP in overall performance.
This is the ultimate Droidian view."

Correct and almost true statement...(On a price/performance basis, there is zero doubt that the p4 is waaaaaay behind, and only doubt in some INTC payrollees minds (and few others) that p4 is slightly ahead of XP in overall performance)

"It's (i.e. p4) only the fastest in the world so let's not get carried away and say anything nice about it..."

Elmer, kinda like when you're talking about AMD yields (conveniently (???)forgetting to compare p4 using the same criteria of analysis)...As long as you define the parameters (i.e MHz only in this instance) your statement is true...Unfortunately, like most of what you preach here, your parameter selection makes your conclusion incredibly selective in its scope and, wholly out of touch with what is happening in the real world...

"The slower one is what's really impressive!!!"

That is a true statement and should scare the daylights out of anyone holding INTC shares, 'cause when Hammer arrives, it's no contest!!!

Elmer,

It's only the fastest in the world so let's not get carried away and say anything nice about it...

Isn't it amazing that probably within 2 years, the high volume, affordable processors from Intel and AMD will have completely blown out of the water all of the formerly high end CPUs?

I still remember when I was starting out and decided that I definitely want to work with the PCs as opposed to the various big iron, workstations, minis. Everyone looked down on the PC guys.

Joe

Fastest for what? Fastest idle speed waiting to fill the cache? Fastest pipeline filler? Fastest discarder of pipeline contents after mis-prediction?

If you like to blow hot air get a P-4. If you have work to do get an XP.
