You have almost a billion and a half people that need to be dragged into the 20th century, let alone the 21st. > People often talk of others as being 'back in the 19th century' as though it would take 100 years to catch up. In fact, children are born and do not care about the past. They are interested only in their own immediacy during their developmental years. Their parents can be 15th century mystics and the children can step straight into the 21st century in a foreign language. That's what they do. Check out progress in Singapore, Korea and Japan as examples of how quickly whole countries can go from desolation and cess-pit status to top of the heap in less than a generation. Check out immigrant children for total adaptation. Those billion and a half people don't need to be dragged into the 20th century. They are not reluctant participants in life. They just need to have the government straight-jacket removed. Turn them loose! Take off the handcuffs. They of course need the protection of property rights, laws and accoutrements of civilisation, but those are cheap. The wealthy and aristocratic and their compatriots traditionally think the serfs and foreigners/aliens are a kind of subhuman species and fit only for servitude. The average American actually thinks they are superior to the average Chinese [and everyone else - it's quite grating]. Well, they measurably are not in one of the most important respects [IQ]. The average American is living off the efforts, creativity and energy of people like Irwin Jacobs and mistakenly think the world owes them a living. Watch Jerry Springer's show to see how superior they are. Dragging the Chinese into the 20th century won't be very difficult. Heck, we've even managed to tame MightyLakers and Ramsey Su [more or less] so if they could be civilized and made into 20th century man, I don't think we'll have too much trouble dragging the hordes of Little Emperors. I hope we can stop them! It might be too late. Emily's [daughter] boyfriend's father swam for freedom decades ago to Hong Kong, made it to Kiwiland and started breeding. Now the purity of my Aryan ancestry is endangered from his offspring [well, in principle anyway]. The Master Race is under threat!! They are determined to escape the drudgery of Mao and Marx, [my ancestors were similarly determined and got here first under similar circumstances - but having escaped gunfire]. My wife, youngest daughter and I had a trip around southern India a few years ago and I think half the population had designs on my daughter's DNA. I'm sure they'd have been keen to help out with the move to the 21st century and dragging would not have been an issue. I first used a cybercafe in Bangalore and it was packed. They are busting to get into the 21st century. QUALCOMM is hiring, as are many others. I think China and India are going to enter the 21st century whether we drag them or not, or threaten them as strategic competitors, or lock the doors. They've had enough of Karl Marx [especially in China]. Legend has it that Mahatma Ghandi was interviewed: Interviewer : What do you think of western civilisation? Mahatma Ghandi : I think it would be a good idea. There's some merit in that comment [still]. Mqurice
