Thanks for the article on the addition of English-language subtitles to Al-Jazeera broadcasts. Here's one statement from the article that I think most Americans would wholeheartedly agree with:

“I’m a firm believer in choice so that readers, listeners or browsers can make up their own minds,” said Magda Abu-Fadil, director of the Institute for Professional Journalists at [Lebanese American Universtity] and a veteran reporter of English and Arabic news media. “I don’t like the idea of being spoon-fed information.”

A remaining problem that I see is that if it is only offered as part of an Arabic-language package, and with the purchase of additional equipment, the cost will be a barrier for many viewers.
