Identix Introduces Industry's First FBI Certified Full Hand Scanner;
Identix Opening Potential New U.S. Law Enforcement Revenue Opportunities

LOS GATOS, Calif., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq: IDNX), the worldwide leader in providing
fingerprint biometric authentication, security and identification solutions,
announced today the introduction of the industry's first FBI certified live
scan full hand scanner. The Identix TouchPrint(TM) PRO Palm/Hand scanner is
the first FBI-certified live scan imaging system to capture full hand images,
allowing the operator to perform a continuous scan of each of a subject's
hands from the carpal crease to the fingertips in conformance with the
recommendations of the International Association for Identification (IAI).
The IAI committee's recommendation calls for the whole human hand to be live
imaged, instead of just the palm portion. According to the IAI, a principal
reason for this continuous scan is to ensure that the palm portion of the hand
can be matched to a particular human subject through the fingertip ridge
information; which makes for a more unbreakable chain of evidence during
criminal prosecution.
Identix also said that it has received Appendix F Certification from the
FBI for its TouchPrint PRO Palm/Hand scanner. Appendix F Certification is the
FBI's highest level of Image Quality Specification (IQS) for submittal to the
national Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System
infrastructure. The Identix TouchPrint PRO Palm/Hand scanner (model TP-2670)
is expected to be available for shipping in the Company's fiscal fourth
quarter ended June 30, 2002, and will be offered as an upgrade option for the
criminal justice configurations of both the Identix TouchPrint 600 and
TouchPrint 2000 Live Scan fingerprinting systems.
Identix Chairman & CEO Bob McCashin commented, "We developed our
TouchPrint PRO scanner in direct response to feedback from our current law
enforcement customers throughout the nation. Since we have the largest
installed base of Live Scan systems in the U.S., we plan to initially sell our
Palm/Hand scanner as an add-on. We believe this may provide the opportunity
to open up new lines of revenue within this market."
Forensic examiners report that approximately one-third of all crime scene
"latent" prints are not from fingertips, but are from other parts of the human
hand. Although these images are rich in friction ridge detail, most of them
go unmatched because of the relatively small database of on-file hand image
exemplars that have been collected from arrested subjects. Thus, many
forensic examiners believe that with the information currently available to
investigators, many crimes go unsolved as a result of the inability to match
the crime scene hand images with on-file images from known arrestees.
The Identix TouchPrint PRO is designed to overcome these limitations by
extending clean digital imaging to the capture of whole hand images. This new
scanner is designed to:

-- Meet and/or exceed the US National standards;
-- Conform to the original intention of the IAI specification;
-- Permit capture of full hand images, which allows the operator to
perform a continuous scan of the subject's hand from carpal crease to
the fingertips in exact conformance with the IAI specification;
-- Permit capture of full hand images up to 5 by 8 inches for each hand;
-- Permit capture of Writer's Palm images up to 1.8 by 5 inches for each
hand;
-- Provide a real-time preview of the image capture process and a review
of the completed image prior to image save;
-- Image at a native scanning resolution that exceeds the minimum 500 dpi
national standard capture resolution;
-- Capture full 256 bit gray scale for maximum image fidelity;
-- Capture with patented Moisture Discriminating optics;
-- Exceed the minimum Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) requirements of
the FBI Image Quality Specification (IQS) to deliver detail down to
Galton Level 3.
