School Boards are the way local communities have of controlling educational content.

DMA is correct that there is an inherent conflict between government and educational content. The conflict arises from the pressure that is put on local school boards by state and national government entities.

Our schools are the most bureaucratic organization engaging private citizens in the country. Very little has changed about the way we go about educating our citizens in the century and a half. We are still preparing children to enter an assembly line society.

There is a natural inclination to grow and become that we are all born with. Each day we should be refreshed with the newness of our own development. However, the motivation to learn, driven by the need to grow, is pretty much driven out of children by the fifth grade. It is replaced by performance motivation which is grounded in teacher controlled classroom management technique. Once leaving the educational "system" some adults shake this off and become dynamic contributors to society. We watch the films they create, marvel at the innovations they design, seek their inventions, benefit from their industriousness. Most of us just find our place as a cog in the mechanizations we have been designed for. Now I'm just rammmmmbmbbmbmlingngn.
