There are more restrictions on straight news operations than on persons primarily in the opinion business, and I am sure it varies a lot among publications. There is certainly nothing like the restriction you refer to, that is, that one can do no outside work.

Disclosure on wall street as well as main street solves this "pay for play" service. Or as it is now admitted in Washington, "cash-and-carry politics"

The way fascism worked in the 20th Century was to convince and coerce the populace into supporting the state against their own interests.

The way fascism will work in 21st Century is just to use intel to lie about it and conceal the evidence.
