Bush's StateUnion speech intended to split Iran internally
that is my perception
sure, plenty of friendys inside Iran
plenty of moderates
plenty who despise the harsh draconian mullahs

but also, a loud controlling minority of lunatics
the speech might actually accomplish some discrimination
and clarify who is pro and who is con

I dont like the mantra "with us or against us"
it never is that simple anywhere in life
always shades of support and willingness to risk

I saw Khamanei on tv back in October
he seemed very reasonable, desiring of reform and modernization
but his landscape is fraught with obstacles to ANY progress

what scares me the most are reports dating back to early 1990's
that Iran had acquired an old Soviet Nuclear Submarine
the renegade soviets and ex-KGB guys are running rampant
