American Power Conversion Expands Mobile Availability Product Line With Suite of USB Mobile Phone Chargers
USB Port on Notebook Computers Charges Name-Brand Cell Phones
biz.yahoo.com
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Power Conversion (APC) today announced a suite of USB-based cables that provide cell phone users worldwide with the ability to charge their name brand phones via the USB port on their notebook computer, decreasing the typical weight in a laptop bag, or briefcase.

``If you have a Nokia®, Ericsson®, or a Motorola® cell phone, APC's new phone charger makes your life easier than ever, by converting your notebook USB port into a power source for your cell phone,'' said Joe Loberti, general manager of APC's Consumer Networks Solutions Group. ``This simple, elegant solution will eliminate transformer bricks, as it keeps your cell phone up and running virtually anywhere: in your car, on a train, or even in the office.''

The APC USB Mobile Phone Chargers, which measure 1.5 meter (4' 8`` inches) in length, are designed to supply the power needed to charge a cell phone battery from a USB port. While the phone is charging, the user is able to make phone calls, or use the modem feature found on more advanced cell phone models, in order to remain in contact while on the road. The APC USB Mobile Phone Chargers will not affect the notebook's internal battery because of the low amount of current needed to charge a cell phone. All of these products feature a USB connector on one end and the vendor-specific adapter on the other.

APC's new USB Mobile Phone Chargers are available in North America for models made by Nokia® and Ericsson®, as well as Motorola® phones. Outside North America, APC offers phone chargers for the above mobile phones, as well as mobile phones from Alcatel®, Panasonic®, Siemens®, and NEC®. The new USB Mobile Phone Chargers are currently available in North America through APC's website, as well as electronic retailers nationwide, and carry a suggested retail price of $19.95 USD.
