Well, I didn't run out and buy more of the Mitford series, but it was a soothing sort of easy read, comforting, like a cup of herbal tea in front of a fire. I confess I have a terrible liking for murder, mayhem, and spookystuff, probably because my life is far more herbal tea than arsenic.

Here is today's column. I wish you could see the wonderful illustration Mark Hoffer did for it, though, in the paper edition. It has a frowning little boy standing in front of the judge's stand, and holding a little scorecard that says "NO!". He even has a Mickey Mouse on his sweatshirt. It is just so perfect and funny. And my editor writes wonderful titles for everything.
I;m so grateful to him for giving me these opportunities. He keeps me going when it feels lonely and discouraging working on The Book. I don't know how writers do it-- when I think that Aunt Helen spent over 50 years writing ...And Ladies of the Club, I think she was-- insane.
