Redbuds only get to about 15'. I've got one close to the house to give it protection during the winter and it has survived.

Another tree that is really pretty is one of the smaller flowering crabs. I've got one that is stunning every spring.

Magnolias are nice too. My mother had one for 30 years and it's probably still in the yard. In this area we get big winds when they bloom and her's never lasted for over a day.
