IMO, Enron has been a blessing in disguise for the surviving IPPs. They were heading for disaster in a few years because they were planning to overbuild of power capacity, similar to fiber and telecoms. Enron changed all that. There is no more money for building many power plants and most of that future capacity has now been scratched. As a result, surviving IPPs will be a lot more profitable.

So now we have the rather strange situation of the industry being far less risky than in the past and at the same time selling at bargain basement levels compared to the recent past.
