Let's go back in time a bit.

January 30th. Day after the presidents State of the Union speech. On Good Morning America. Charlie Gibson is interviewing Sen. Daschle.

Gibson, "The president cited Iraq, Iran and North Korea as an Axis of Evil. He says We will not let dangerous regimes threaten us with mass destructive weapons. What do you think he means by that? What is he going to do?"

Daschle, "I think what the President did was to put these countries on notice. Letting them know that we know more than what he acknowledged about what they're doing. But you know the memory of 9/11 runs so deeply that we know that we gotta take more preventative action. And the president outlined some of the steps last night in his address and i think that congress supports him Charlie."

Gibson, "Do you think the Congress would support military action if it came to that? Against those three countries?"

Daschle, "I think they would. I think there is a strong belief the we need to do whatever is necessary in order to prevent the kind of attacks we saw last fall. And if it takes preemptive strikes and preemptive action I think the Congress is prepared to support it."

Wellllllll wellll welllll... Now isn't that interesting?

January 30th. Just over 2 weeks ago.

Sounds to me like he's supporting the Axis of Evil comment doesn't it? Well somethings happened between now and then.

Monday night on the News Hour with Jim Lerher Tom Daschle was the guest.

And Jim Lerher the host of News Hour with Jim Lerher asks the senator this question.

Lerher, "Was the president right to use the term "Axis of Evil" in labeling Iran, Irag and North Korea in his state of the Union speech last month?"

Daschle I don't think so. I think that it's important for us to look to each of these countries Jim to ahh, as, as threats to this country clearly. As problems to address clearly. But I think that we've got to be very careful with the rhetoric of that kind. You've already seen the moderates in Iran scramble to distance themselves from us. And I think you've got to be careful how you treat all three countries..

Now come on!!! What has happened here? What's going on here?

And BTW there is no such thing as moderates in IRAN!!! And even if there are and they are distancing themselves from us than whoop-tee-doo!!

Now what's happened here between January 30th and February 11th?

Daschle decides that he's going to go back on his original thought of supporting the President and now go ahead and rip the President for the Axis of Evil comment.

The thing here is that Tom Daschle never thinks that the case has been made against rogue thugs until they actually attack us here at home. That was his position prior to September and that's his position now.

Daschle's whole public career has been one of this: He slashes our force structure, he votes for military cuts left and right. He has voted to undermine our intelligence forces. He supports all these phony treaties. His heros are people like George McGovern and James Aberisk, two of the most left-wing senators to ever serve.

He's not the only voice critic?ising Bush's Axis of Evil statement.
Daschles allies in this criticism are the Barbarians that run North Korea. The Islamic Extremists that run Iran and the mass murderer Saddam Hussein.

That's the company Tom Daschle has joined. With Madeline Albright and Richard Holbrook.

But that's a small group. You can fit those people inside of a phonebooth outside Capitol Hill. That's the crowd Daschle has joined. Everyone else is supporting the Axis of Evil concept in addition to the actual words. Daschle did too. On January 30th.

And I ask again. What has happened?

Daschle has decided to align himself with that Axis of Evil.

Now if this bothers you please tell me how this is wrong. Remember perceptions in politics are the reality..
