Goldsnow, I'm afraid you didn't grasp the full extent of the "Karin A" incident: as I warned you a coupla months ago, IRAN's hardliners are banking on their new, post-911 strategic edge.... Iran indeed enjoys a toehold both in Aghanistan and in Lebanon/Palestine.

The Bush administration wants to railroad Arafat into staying clear of Iran. But that's just impossible because Iranian hardliners themselves will force their way into the Israel/Palestine conflict --regardless of Arafat's game plan. Part of the reason for the Iranian gate-crashing is the status of Jerusalem, that is, a touchy issue that concerns ALL Muslims, not just the Palestinians....

Of course, the US may want to push the Iranians around (as Bush threatened to do in his State of the Union address) and that's where Russia comes in: Russian hardliners are gonna use Iran as a proxy thorn in the US's side.
