Just listened to the Creation ex Nihilo audio link. The speaker missed out in his theorising, what I consider to be the real deal about how the universe came into being.

Forget for now "the beginning" or "self existence" of the universe and consider where it is going. It is credible that the universe consists of a certain amount of energy in various forms, and that the universe will exist forever. So the "end of time" is a non existent phenomena.

Now that doesn't help us in our quest to discover where we are from. But I don't think that matters. I believe that time is running backwards and has been for "minus ever" (i.e. the elapsed time from the non-existent "end of time" until the present moment).

So how the universe "was" created in what we call the past is irrelevant, because it "minus has" not happened. In other words, the story hasn't been written yet and it doesn't matter. The universe can go through its negative creation at some point in what we call the past and the methodology of doing so will not matter because it will be at that instant extinguished.
