Hi Elmat, I am relaxing in San Francisco now, and here are some observations:

(a) The restaurants are full, prices cheaper than Hong Kong by about 20% while the portions are bigger by 80%;

(b) Lots of new buildings, schools and such all around;

(c) High-end and low-end housing has not corrected downward yet;

(d) Consumer credit availability is plentiful;

(e) Quite a few friends in between jobs and situations, but no sign of worry. In fact vacationing and putting in home improvements;

(f) The TV has a gazillion channels but there is nothing on (I cannot find my favorites during evening hours … Perry Mason, Columbo … etc. I am still stuck in the 1970-80s time warp;

(g) Everything worth doing still revolves around the car, which I adore. The new satellite navigation system is fabulous with its ‘left turn in 0.5 miles’;

(h) Cellular service is awful compared to Hong Kong; and

(i) Very quiet life;

(j) makes one wonder why interest rates needed to be cut at all.

Chugs, Jay
