I think today was options expiration. The movement of stocks today was downright weird!

Its interesting to me also, as this is an expiration week.. AMAT is calling the shots on tech optimism over the next two days, volume is light, there have been enough rate cuts to stimulate even a sleeping economy, and techs.. despite having had huge price losses, are trading in anticipation of the third quarter having better visibility.

As for IBM, I'm wondering if they've run out their bag of tricks on wringing growth out of assets.. its rare to see any stock correct with only one down leg so I'm guessing this is a minor retracement in a further decline... but unsure of timing or entry.
