re: Strategy Analytics on Samsung v. SonyEricsson

>> Samsung Threatens SonyEricsson's Position

Cellular News
13th February 2002

According to a new Strategy Analytics Report, Samsung will begin to separate itself from Siemens, as they wage a head-to-head battle for market share in the global cellular market. Buoyed by profits in domestic markets, a strong CDMA position in the Americas and positive GSM growth, Samsung will threaten SonyEricsson for third place market share.

Chris Ambrosio, Senior Analyst in the Strategy Analytics Global Wireless Practice notes, "Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (SEMC) will emerge as the number three vendor in 2002 with 7.9% market share, but it will struggle to redefine its global portfolio and harmonize the dramatically different cultures of the two merged entities. Ericsson has solid mid to mid-high range product, but we remain unconvinced about offerings for the volume end of their business."

David Kerr, Vice President of the Strategy Analytics Global Wireless Practice notes, "Nokia will extend its market leading position by an additional 2 points in 2002. Nokia will drive product innovation with MMS, Imaging, JAVA, and color displays that will help spur replacement sales. Over the next 2 years, Nokia will benefit from its decision to champion MMS rather than dabble with the uninspiring content offered by EMS." Motorola is expected to post modest market share gains in 2002 as its reinvention continues. <<

Thanks for posting the Strategy Analytics numbers.
