Lee, 401K plans are and will remain a mess. How much trouble it will cause if they are only allowed a 20% holding will vary co. by co. After all, many employees are smart enough to diversify. I am wondering about the "co. contribution," which is usually in stock. The way they were talking, it would only impact the employee's contribution, protecting him from himself.

I doubt there will be a meltdown. If GE employees have to divest stock and MSFT employees the same, they will simply buy brain dead index funds that will have to buy shares in those same cos. Net net, I don't think it will have much impact.
