"The Sheikhs are in power..."

If you go to a traditional Middle Eastern market you would see streets lined with tiny shops. Lets say you want to buy a pen. You stand on the side walk and shout across a counter "Ya Sheik, how much for this pen." If you don't refer to him as a Sheik the pencil peddler might just over look your presence. Then you negotiate the price while continuing to honor him in every way you can. Then you go to your friends and tell them what a thief the guy was for the prices he tries to charge.

The point is anyone and everyone in the Middle East gets labeled "Sheik" when they have even the tiniest bit of influence or power.

"The Sheikhs are in power because Islamic clerics rule the Islamic power structure."

Not true. The religious scholars (clerics) who don't kiss up to the tyrannical leaders are imprisoned. Religious scholars are not considered messengers from God and being a scholar in religion does not preclude corruption any more than having a PhD in Political Science does. Everyone in the Middle East knows that the persons in power are there because they likely took it by force and hold it by force....not because the citizenry support them.

A world wide revolution against corruption is needed and this is part of what fuels the terrorists....terrorism will never bring about a decent society. Its like shooting someone in the head to teach them to stop biting their nails.
