Thurmond is a legend - beloved in SC. Thurmond wins almost by acclamation. Thurmond, I believe, is the only man to win his Senate seat as a write-in candidate. In 1954 he was elected to the U.S. Senate by a write-in vote, the only person ever elected to the Senate in this manner. strom.clemson.edu Hollings is a snake that barely won re-election two years ago.
