>The Bush administration is launching a nationwide investigation of deregulated electricity and natural gas prices in the wake of persistent questions about Enron Corp.'s trading practices, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Pat Wood said yesterday.

The investigation Wood described in an interview yesterday is much larger geographically and topically than anything the federal government has done since last year's California power crisis rocked the nation's faith in deregulation and raised questions about Enron's ethics.

Wood said his agency would work with the Federal Trade Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to learn whether trading in energy contract risks inflated consumer electricity prices, particularly in California and the Pacific Northwest....
