Wouldn't an increasing price of gold lead to increasing production from the miners? (After a time lag of course.)

I don't think that gold can take the place of tech stocks without some sort of "new era" story. People won't drive the price through the roof unless they believe it to be sustainable. I don't see what that story is.

I disagree. When the tech stocks were going it was based on the perception that the future earnings stream of companies
like YHOO, EBAY etc would justify current valuation. To say
that gold will go up because it is going up is wishful thinking on the part of the gold bugs.
