JOHN EDWARDS IS A MAN ON THE MOVE

Sen. John Edwards is getting ready to run for president, one voter at a time.
He approaches Dorothy Lester, 79, who's having a late lunch in a booth at the Merrimack Restaurant. ''I'm John Edwards,'' he says. ''I'm from North Carolina.''

''North Carolina!'' she repeats, apparently impressed. ''Wow!'' But don't put her down as a supporter just yet. As Edwards walks away, she confides, ''He said his name, but now I've forgotten it.''

Democrats Begin Race for White House Nomination

In addition to Gephardt, Daschle, Lieberman and Kerry, Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina is seen as the fifth member of Congress weighing a possible White House bid. There may be more.

In their respective "major speeches" this month, Daschle blamed Bush's $1.3 trillion tax cut last year for the return of deficits, Kerry challenged the president's energy policies and Lieberman said the war on terrorism could not be won until Iraq's Saddam Hussein was removed from power.
