12:25 ET Briefing.com Bond Ticker: Futures predicting 25 bp rate hike by Fed : The fed funds futures market is now pricing in a 100% chance of a 25 bp Fed tightening before mid-year. Some will no doubt question the wisdom of Fed rate hikes at a time when the economy is still fragile, even if it is growing again... Instead of viewing lower/higher rates as stimulative/restrictive, the Fed will view the initial moves toward higher rates as simply being less accommodative. That might appear to be a subtle distinction, but it will be the key to understanding why the Fed is hiking rates even in what might be a sluggish economic recovery.
