I don't think Terry is to far off the mark on poverty in this country. I know a woman with a child who is disabled and who I consider poor. She can't work because of the disability, has no savings, and relies solely on benefits. She is able to maintain a small apartment, a phone, an old car (barely, I suspect she will eventually lose it), and keep food on the table. I would say she represents a typical benefited poor person in this country.

The only ones poorer are those that have fallen through the cracks: illegal immigrants and those unable to work and unable to get benefits (ex. mentally ill).
