Tenchusatsu,

I think Sun is going to have a lot of problems in the future. The top 10 priorities that milo posted have one major problem - the price, which he has on 8th or 9th place. I think it can be taken out as a separate item / feature, because everything else affects the price.

The survey may be right for a subset of buyers, who are ready to spend $100,000 on a server, but this subset is not growing (as a % or absolute number), and may in fact be shrinking.

Joe

Tench, our CIO tried to pitch AMD and Intel servers to our Big Corporate CIO in lieu of Sun and got shot down.

Ten, so there is a Riddler? Forgot, thought the Joker was also the riddle guy. Too many years...

I listened to some of the HP CC, some of it of course being germane to Intel. HP is pretty pleased with their quarter, considering. However, don't like to hear stuff like "GMs were up because of headcount lowering." Consumer PCs were a bright spot, corporate PCs good also. No breakdown, of course re Intel based vs. AMD based PCs, but Intel gained market share in the quarter, we know. IA based servers were flat sequentially, whereas Unix based were down 7% sequentially.

Carly had good words for Itanium development, that both HP and Compaq were getting excellent cooperation from ISVs in software development for Itanium. Also, she said HP's customers were not switching away from them because of the merger, or because of the hardware platform switch. She said there was a hotline for that issue allowing sales people to contact her or other top people directly. It hasn't been used much at all. Recall that Sun and Dell both came out relishing the merger and said that they would make hay while the merger dragged. She said no. There was one metric, sorry I didn't get, in which Sun was down 74%.

No appreciable IT spending comeback 'til second half.

Vote by FTC re merger with Compaq on March 19. HP expressed confidence it would go through, but why wouldn't they.

Not bad overall. Now, go Dell.

Tony

Ten - Re: "It's funny to see Milo (and sTeViE to an extent) supporting Sun like that company is AMD's best friend. "

Look for these turncoats to change their story if and when Sun announces they will use an Intel processor for their x86/Linux boxes.

These MAD clowns will scream and cry and whine - just like they did when MAD won the XBOX contract with Microsoft ( NOT !) and Intel was named the victor at the last moment.

When (and if this happens) the MAD AMDroids will claim Intel is giving away the PUs to SUN for FREE - or even at a LOSs - and that SUN is headed to oblivion since they did not choose a MAD CPU !
