i forgot to add 2 more rules:
keep your positions small relative to your trading capital, and let your winning trades run when you have them (when i said stops i only meant stop losses).
but what really gives you an edge is a good understanding of technical analysis and a bit of intuition (what you call luck i think it's an innate skill instead, sort of like a good athlete is born not made), so your trades are well timed in the first place so the need for being stopped out is minimized.
the problem is when your assets under management become so large that it's very difficult to follow these rules with monstruous positions.
