There's a conscience technique used by "entertainers" like Paul Harvey and Rush Limbaugh of telling some minor but true ironic stories which are then followed up by a whopper lie. If they can get enough people to repeat it then it becomes accepted as fact. Like the one about Bush winning in Florida.
