After The Bell - HP gains, but techs sag

(Updates with Hewlett-Packard, Elan)
NEW YORK, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Technology stocks sagged
slightly in after-hours trading on Wednesday, biting into a
solid rally in the regular session despite better-than-expected
profits from printer and computer maker Hewlett-Packard Co.
<HWP.N>
Hewlett-Packard initially slipped slightly on the Instinet
electronic brokerage system from Wednesday's close of $20.98
and then ticked back up to $21.05.
HP posted profits above expectations it raised last week
when it said consumers were buying PCs and printers.
Takeover target Compaq Computer Corp. <CPQ.N> rose to
$11.50 from $11.40 at Wednesday's close.
The Nasdaq-100 After Hours Indicator eased modestly,
sagging 0.13 percent.

Silly Wally is losing traction....

You could not have missed the number of informed opinions about how Silly Wally is losing creditability with those that count. (Mutual Funds, CEO's of other corporations, and his own board members.)

Its been mentioned that he is spending about 25 million of his own dollars in this effort. He would have been further ahead if he spent the 25 million in the purchase of HWP stock and used those shares to strengthen his voting shares.

He wants HWP to concentrate on the imaging business. But this business is very fragmented with HWP nowhere in the top tier of companies competing for a stake. (Eastman Kodak, Panasonic , Canon, Nikon,Adobe and a slew of other companies divide up the market). So this vision is flawed.

His biggest concern should be that the merger fails the vote of shareholders, and then HWP stock takes on water like Zerox or Polaroid. (They were big on the imaging business).

The strength in this situation goes to CPQ. They will do very well with or without the merger.

Silly Wally is like the cowboy that sells his horse to buy a saddle????

This is my totally unbiased opinion.....(long CPQ with no plan of selling below 20)
