Jesus both knew and did.
He knew he would die if he went to Jerusalem, yet he did go there anyway. He could have chosen not to go.
It is also suicide if you know you are going to die if you don't eat, but do not eat for a long time anyway and die of starvation.

In what cases is suicide justified?

Of course, this is all predicated on the accuracy of the biblical fairy tales...
