While what you say is true, it is also true that more people have heard the names of Sale and Pelletier now than ever would had they won the Gold.

"The audience let their disapproval of the judging be known."

When have audiences ever been objective and impartial?

This, however, is not a defense of those judges. And what about the bribing of the Olympic officials to get the games in SLC to start with? I'm not blaming the committee in SLC either. It wouldn't be the first time that a small elitist group that controls a precious commodity (like event location awards) has demanded personal 'incentives' in return for a site selection.

The Olympics is not about performances of the best 'amateur' athletes in the world and the impartial judging of the winners. It's about power in a billion dollar business. And what is power about ultimately? The ability to enrich oneself. Idealism is somewhat incongruous here.

While I would have preferred seeing the Russians go down to receiving the silver medal while the Canadians got the gold, only in a perfect world I guess! Besides, many are still afraid of the Russians and so kiss their backsides so as to not rock the boat....
