I short only broad indexes -- SPY, QQQ etc. through mutual funds in the Rydex family. I don't short individual stocks because I can't do it in a tax-deferred account. My taxable account is entirely in cash since I believe the market is enormously overvalued even now. Especially now. My "gains" with stocks like QCOM is that I avoided buying them when they topped out, and restrained myself from catching the falling knives (falling for two years now and Lord knows, for how many more months/years).
