My guess is we'll see lots more downgrades as the rating
agencies move to ward off suits from altruistic lawyers.
These folks have a tendency to include anyone with deep pockets in their sights and the rating agencies have been accused of being too slow to lower ratings on Enron.

<Yes, like almost every other analyst. But, Moody's et al are not in the business of giving investment advice. Their focus is credit risk assessment>

I wasn't questionning the independence of rating agencies. My point was that like most people, they see things through the rear view mirror.
