You might want to look at the 1987 chart bigcharts.marketwatch.com Date ------ DJIA Jan01 '87 1900 May '87 2200-2300 Aug '87 2600-2700 (roughly 20% higher) Dec31 '87 1950 (roughly 10% lower) They missed a big run up and the year closed about 10% lower then where they were bearish. I know of some timers that are on Forbes Honor roll that were actually bullish in the summer of 1987 and sold out near the bottom...
