The driving of soft money from the regulated to the unregulated part of the system must be just the thing the dems wanted.

While I have always seriously doubted that anything positive could come out of this whacky legislation (other then its passage taking away John McCain's last reason to even exist), one might (assuming that the law can hold up on court) see the refocusing of political money from "Republican" and "Democrat" to "Liberal" and "Conservative". This MIGHT allow, say, the Republicans to regularly purge themselves of obscenities like Jim "Big Milk" Jeffords, as well as morons like Trent Lott who allowed him to get re-elected with party help-even while it never occurred to him that a Jeffords is bad for any party he may be in.

At least that's a possible positive scenario for the law. But I really doubt it. The law is a joke, written by fools, passed by idiots, to satisfy the ignorant-and creates no value, whatsoever...

I've long thought that he best way to clean up campaign financing was to allow unlimited donations ("soft" or "hard")... but mandate that they be disclosed daily - in *real time*.

Politically involved Special Interest Groups should also have to disclose donations above a certain very low amount. And 'truth in labeling' should apply when they take to the airwaves... no more hiding behind false fronts, if possible.

The aim being that only when the sunshine is let in can we hope for a cleaner system.
