Paragraph 2.

Iraq has not been honouring the agreemnt for years. The Americans and British have been bombing Iraq for 10 years - officially to enforce the no-fly zones but who knows what else. The French have pulled out of this. It's reported that up to 500,000 Iraqi infants have died because of sanctions. The incidence of breast cancer among women has increased dramatically - probably as a result of enhanced uranium used in the armaments dropped on Iraq. i.e. the Gulf War Syndrome now being acknowledged. The health and education system in Iraq, the most advanced in the Middle East, has been decimated. So I think thee has been ample retribution on the innocent people of Iraq. So you want more? Give them an ultimatum they are bound to refuse and then bomb the hell out of them and kill thousands more people. All for some sort of macho revenge, unfinished business of the father - the question mark on Powell's record?

2. Afghanistan

The Taliban were a repressive regime put in place with US complicity. At least they weren't commies after all! Bin Laden was also supported by the CIA and Saudis. But BL turned against America and is said to have plotted the 9/11 attacks. If he didn't plot them then his henchmen, probably in Egypt did. The Taliban sheltered him and allowed him to use the training camps many of which were set up with US help when they we helping in the war against Russia.

So in the name of the war against terrorism - destroy the Taliban and cause numerous civilian deaths among the innocent Afghanis, many of who had no idea why they were being bombed, add unexploded cluster bombs to the deadly stock of land mines, more enhanced uranium, and return the country to the chaos it was in before the Taliban took over with U.S. blessing. How many top El Quaida were captured? There is very little reporting from the ground by US journalists. If you read the European and Asian media you get a different perspective. But the one reads what one wants to read, right?
