just for shits and giggles, do you know that it would have cost a little over $5 million today to make the VIX whatever the hell you wanted? Check the $$ value traded today in the 8 options used, march and april 565 and 570's (feb is no longer the near month in the vix within 8 calendar days of settlement)....so if you actually think the vix is an indicator that's followed, it's pretty damn easy to make it whatever you want. I am by no means implying this is done or is even a good idea, just trying to give people a perspective on the scale of things that is kind of interesting to me, especially for something so widely watched...like that stupid groundhog -g-
