Yes, I think Musharraf has done pretty well, from an American point of view. He has taken enormous risks to assist the US and has been a reliable partner. Abandoning him at this stage means uncertainty in the entire region, something that the world doesn't need ever, and certainly not now.

If India has any problems with Musharraf and/or Pakistan, it is up to India to deal with that. I think India shouldn't expect the US to help it out in this regard, and amongst the labyrinthine ramblings of India's diplomats, I notice a "keep your hands off India" demand running alongside the "help a fellow-democracy" slogan. Does anybody in India know what India expects the US to do? If not, why should they expect the US to understand what India wants?
