Intel says hasn't changed 2nd-qtr guidance

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Intel Corp., the world's largest chipmaker, said on Thursday that it has not changed the financial guidance it gave for the second quarter when it reported first-quarter earnings last month.

``We haven't changed our guidance when we announced earnings in January and we will have our regularly scheduled mid-quarter update on March 7,'' said Intel spokesman Tom Beermann. ``Beyond that, we don't comment on rumors.''

Earlier, market rumors were circulating that Intel (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) would guide results lower for the current first quarter, which helped to send stocks lower.

When Intel reported fourth-quarter earnings on Jan. 15, the Santa Clara, California-based company forecast first-quarter sales of $6.4 billion to $7.0 billion, implying revenue either flat or falling as much as 8.3 percent from the fourth quarter.

Intel shares were up 2 cents to $33.40 in late trading on Nasdaq.
