yes, it is true, it is pretty much impossible to get short interest data that is less than 1 month old. But, I would be surprised if the short interest for QCOM fluctuates more than a couple of points on a month to month basis.

I do believe that the selling last week was likely capitulatory. I was short at the time that the drop happened and covered when I saw the volume. It remains to be seen if that was the final bottom for QCOM, but their is very likely a whole new set of institutional owners out there. The amount of QCOM (or any stock) held by retail investors like you and I is really nominal compared to the institutions. Me shorting or going long on QCOM is going to have no real effect on the stock price.
