SI may have simply chosen to not spend much time contacting everyone, possibly because they thought it would be taken care of by others... My e-mail address has not changed, and I was not contacted. So there was more to it than active e-mail addresses. Yes, I got an email. But only because my email address hasn't changed since I signed up for SI in 1996. Many people have new ones now, and nobody, of course, thinks to notify SI. That's why they should tell people about these things by PM, not email.
