Scott,

I agree completely that Mr. Lay, or any other ENE executive that may have hurt its employees and shareholders, must be held accountable for whatever wrongs they may have done. My dispute with these Congressional hearings has nothing to do with that. I have no faith that any of these Congressmen/women look at this as anything other than an opportunity to demagogue a bad situation for their own personal gain.

If Mr. Lay broke laws, he should be held accountable. Congress is not the body to accomplish that.

Glad you had a good vacation.

Nobody should be presumed guilty for asserting their Constitutional 5th Amendment rights. A negative inference from doing so negates the protection afforded by them.

That Detroit Free Press editorial is contrary to the evidence that is coming out -- slowly, as evidenced by yesterday's very good and credible whistleblower's testimony that she believed Mr. Lay was duped by Skilling and Fastow. I'm sure there's lots more to learn.

I guess when everybody's mad and there are newspaper pages and air time to fill, it doesn't matter what the facts are or whether anybody's really interested in finding out what happened. They just want blood, and don't care whose blood it is.

Imagine what the news media would say if anyone in government even suggested that the media not assert its First Amendment rights.
