Some other animals, like otters, eat them by cracking the shells against rocks
True. But some animals are always willing to eat some other animal. :-)

It is kind of like deciding to cook potatoes, but not apples........
True. But apples taste good uncooked.

Hi Neocon; Re: "It is kind of like deciding to cook potatoes, but not apples." I'll eat potatoes raw when I find out that farmers aren't fertilizing them with feces anymore.

As far as chili that's useful as nail polish remover, why not be a man, and eat the real stuff:

(Makes about as much sense to me.)

As far as eating raw stuff that's been taken out of the oceans (which have been filthy since long before man arrived to further gunk them up), no thanks.

As far as eating filter feeders raw, forget it, it ain't gonna happen to me. The viral load in the ocean is horrendous. Researchers who filter ocean water for virus particles treat the stuff as hazardous waste. They won't eat raw oysters, why should I?

P.S. I also prefer my hamburgers with the $h:t cooked out of them.
