Jacob, I believe you have analyzed my trading style quite well. Here's one additional comment:

The main problem, the big thing I don't understand, is how to tell the difference between a head-fake, and a change in direction.

That's the key of course. Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to provide any clear guidelines to follow because of the countless variables that come into play. Certainly, predicting the turn is where it all must come together in an instant in order to correctly predict the best course of action. I rely on everything you might imagine to provide the clues. Perhaps most helpful to me has been to simply watch AMAT trade day-in and day-out. Circumstances and patterns begin to repeat. It eventually gets to the point where you can almost "see" what's going to happen next. Fundamentals, technicals, news and commentary provide the necessary background for trading, but experience watching the action and executing trades is what has helped me the most in timing my plays.
