Zero degrees Longitude goes through Greenwich, London, not some place in Paris. That and a few other things means we cannot be "happy campers" for some reason -g-

I was fascinated when I first saw a world map with the USA in the centre of it.

I never understood why HMG decided to build a channel tunnel. Things were just fine as they were -g-

You may have a point. But maybe generally people of a nation always feel superior to others when that nation is at the top of the pyramid.

Clearly the Brits felt that way when they colonized most parts of the world. Same goes for the Nazi germans and Japs.

I can't imagine the current day Brits or Germans have much to feel superior.

The French are a different breed. I have been told they always feel superior be they a conqueror or conquered! But it is only heresy as I have not been to France and I have met at most a couple of them.
