Suppose you're CEO of a company that is trying to "push the performance envelope." You go to your lawyers and accountants and ask them for ideas about how to deal with some troublesome debt. They suggest a "Special Purpose Entity" and assure you it's legal. Not being an accountant yourself, you accept their opinion.

I'm not saying that's what happened ... but it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

Now, who should go to jail?

JMHO.

Dear Charles: Its all Tom Daschles fault!!

Wow i was more right than i knew.

Found this on the GWB thread:

Dear Cyberken and Chrystal: Glad to see you two share my thoughts on Daschle. That PRICK is so POLITICAL that he would put a hurtin on the whole USA and economy in the HOPE that it would lead to Dem Gains in the elections. His REFUSAL to work with the House and President on an economic stimulus package is BEASTIAL and I PRAY the American public opens its eyes and sees what Bastards he and his like minded politicians are. From my viewpoint he is more DANGEROUS and TREACHEROUS then Johnny Walker. Shame on S. Dakota for putting this asshole in this position. JDN

You haven't been mailing suspicious envelopes from New Jersey to your boy "Johnny Walker" Daschle have you?

The funny thing is that the Democrats in the Senate have a stimulus bill that has more than 50 votes, but not 60, and the Republicans won't let it come to a vote. If that bill passed it would go to conference where the White House would be able to help shape a compromise. But of course that's not obstructionism or treachery on the part of the Republicans.

When Bush was running for President he said he'd work with the congress, Democrats and Republicans, like he did in Texas, "'cause that's what a leader does." He could easily tell the Republicans and Democrats to just pass the parts of a stimulus bill that both sides agree on. It would sail through congress and we could have some stimulus right now. But in this case the President clearly prefers politics to policy.

I think we ALL ought to write to the SEC, and anyone else we can think of and DEMAND responsible accounting OR ELSE.

Do you really think Bush appointed Harvey Pitt who represented Arthur Anderson in fighting accounting regulations and now heads the SEC is going to stand up for responsible accounting? Or perhaps Enron's hand picked head of the FERC? As long as the Fox is bribing his way into watching the hen house, how much oversight can we really expect?

It appears the overseas markets are collapsing tonight because of Bush's failure to accomplish anything in Tokyo. At least he didn't puke on anybody like his old man.
