Actually, I never asserted that pacifists were cowards. I do, however, think that the acceptance of the triumph (however temporary) of evil, in order to avoid violence is an instance of insisting that the cleanliness of one's "hands" is more important than the result. Certainly, it seemed so to me at the time.

As for the quote, it applied to moving from a more radical to a liberal point- of- view. The case is somewhat more complicated when you are comparing center- left with center- right, since it mainly has to do with line drawing. There should be a substantial underlying consensus, despite some hot button disagreements.

Poet I believe Neo said "As for my anarcho- syndicalism, I simply got more practical, and developed a better sense of how society works." I don't think that is saying that liberalism is for the immature or those who don't understand how the world works but rather that anarcho-syndicalism is for people who don't understand how things work.
