The German subs sank a lot of Liberty ships headed for Murmansk. The United States did provide help to the Russians, but the Russians did a lot more for themselves. By the time the Allies invaded France the Russians were already well on their way back toward Berlin. Some of post-war Russian paranoia had to do with the delay in opening "the second front."

Russia lost something on the order of 30,000,000 people--military and civilians--in the war. The United States lost something on the order of 400,000--but many of these were natural deaths among the 16,000,000 or so who served in the armed forces during the period. American civilian deaths from military action were very small.

To say this does not diminish the heroism and sacrifice of a great many Americans. But it may explain why the Russians were so hard to deal with for so many years.

If you are talking about who crushed the Germans yes, The Soviets did 75% of the work. I suggest to peruse those links I posted a bit more.

The number of German losses is there for review. The Soviets win hands down.

Not even Skilling can bend those numbers!

My respects to any German viewers looking in. From all that pain, you have an admirer of your country here.

OK, the USA whacked Japan almost single handed. The linear thinking models don't take into account those bad guys were winning on an exponential level until some brave USA guys stopped them in their tracks.

The USA "won" the war in Japan, because the Japanese are now good friends of the USA. That is what I call style -g-

They are close now to winning the war in Vietnam too.

Something the USA can be proud of.

Ask it the other way. How well do you think D-Day would have gone without all those german corpses rotting in the Ukraine?

It was a group effort and while both peoples paid a heavy price for victory the Russian price was astronomically higher than the American price.

Don't denigrate your allies.
