Thanks for the info. I am using photo paper (not a complete dolt). I think my printer may be only 760dpi, and that is probably the problem. As far as spending too much, I am hoping that for $500 or so I can get the quality I want. I have seen some 11 x 17 prints from a large file (from a 4mp camera) and they were photo quality (not "near" photo quality). I think they were printed on an $800 printer that could print the large format. The same quality at 8 1/2 x 11 would be a lot less I think.
